The Story of Black Cottage
The heart of Black Cottage is an original farmhouse built in the late 1800s. Moved and bolted onto the neighbour's villa in the 1960s, it was later pulled off with a tractor and left in a paddock, destined for kindling.
In 2015 Pete spotted it, fell in love, and struck a deal to save it. Craned onto the property, it was rebuilt by hand over countless hours (plus a little sweat and skin), first as a craft shop and now as a boutique cottage for guests to enjoy.
Original rimu panelling and timber walls keep the history alive, while double glazing, insulation, air conditioning and quality beds make it genuinely comfortable, summer or winter.
The Cottage
Enter through a rustic farm-style gate into your own private space, nestled among oak trees. The whole cottage is yours.
Living room: timber walls, comfy sofas, smart TV and bifold doors opening to a covered outdoor area overlooking the Karamu Stream.
Kitchen & dining: granite benches, oven, stove, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker and a breakfast bar for four.
Bedroom 1: King bed, smart TV and ensuite.
Bedroom 2: Super King bed (or two long singles on request), smart TV, next to the second bathroom.
Outdoors: 4-person spa, covered BBQ shack, front deck and lawn.
